Net metering: the day your meter runs backward
13 August 2026 · Suryam Tech, Bhopal

On a sunny afternoon your panels often make more power than your home is using. Net metering sends that extra power into the grid — and your meter literally counts backward, crediting you those units.
Day exports, night imports — you pay the difference
At night you draw from the grid as usual. At billing time the discom nets the two: units you exported minus units you imported. That's why a correctly sized system can bring a ₹3,500 bill down to a few hundred rupees — the grid works like your battery, without you buying one.
The net-meter swap is a formal discom step with its own paperwork and inspection — which is why it appears as its own stage in your project tracker, with our licensing team chasing it for you.
