PM Surya Ghar subsidy, explained step by step

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the central government scheme that pays a large part of your rooftop solar cost directly into your bank account. It is the single biggest reason home solar has become affordable in India.

How much do you get?

The subsidy is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, plus ₹18,000 for the third kW — capped at ₹78,000 in total. So a 1 kW system gets ₹30,000, a 2 kW system gets ₹60,000, and a 3 kW or larger system gets the full ₹78,000.

Who is eligible?

Homeowners with a residential electricity connection and a roof they own. The connection should be in the applicant's name, and the subsidy goes to the same person's bank account.

What documents are needed?

Typically: your latest electricity bill, identity proof (like Aadhaar), a bank passbook or cancelled cheque, and photos of the installed system for the final claim. As a registered vendor, Suryam Tech prepares and files the entire application for you — you don't fill a single form yourself.
